BBQ in Shek O

Last Sunday at the Shek O beach: we went there for BBQ; Oliver brought original
german sausages, a group of very nice HK people left us a box full of meat and fishballs when they finished their BBQ because earlier they got one of the original german sausages to taste :)

Weather was good, happy people around, weird old italien music from an i pod, german sausages and chinese fishballs on the grill...
Was a perfect day and I m getting lazy with taking pictures. Only took a video; but it shows the atmosphere better then 100 pics..

cooking in Hong Kong

WARNING!!! If you have a sensitiv stormach, please dont continue......

How to cook a delicious frog dish:

1. Go to the market and select some fat healthy frogs.

2. The nice salesman will kill them for you and remove the parts, you dont like to eat.

3. Back at home, wash them....

... and remove some parts like the fingers and the head.

4. heat some oil in the wok, put in fresh ginger first and few minutes later put in the frogmeat.

5. Add the white part of the fresh spring onion.

6. Cook all together for 10 min and add some tomatos in the end, serve it in a nice bowl.

7. The meat is nice and tender and taste like chicken/fish.

Delicious!!!!

Seefood in Sai Kung and Po Toi O

My last weekend was mainly about the sea, seafood, villages at the sea.....
It was so hot, so it was the best place to stay.
Saturday evening I was with friends in Sai Kung for seafood.
Let me show you some:

This is a real animal; probably from earth. I dont know, what parts you can eat but sure you can make weapons or other things out of it. We didn't try this one.... this time.

Another version of "message in the bottle". The one, who can guess how this came into the bottle wins a dinner in Sai Kung ;)

Ok now, this was our dinner, its kind of mussel I guess (according to the shell), very tasty and I m glad I didnt see it alive.

Here - very decadent - a whole lobster with pasta and cheese sauce.

And this is the table after dinner...
On Sunday I went to a place I was one time with friends for dinner. Its Po Toi O, a small village near Sai Kung.
To get there is easy: take the MTR to Po Lam and then minibus Nr. 16 to the end.
Nice quiet village, good seafood and a golf course behind the village.

Sonntag, 26. Juli 2009

A friend invited me last Sunday for brunch at a restaurant at the country side.
The restaurant was a big house in a village.
When we arrived at 10.30 am the place was already full of people.
We just had to find a place at one table and than we could pick up the tea and food by ourself

We got different kind of dim sum, vegetables fresh from the nearby field and in the end delicious
sweet tofu and coconut pudding.

Downstairs was the kitchen and you could see, how the people prepare the food.

You can sit also outside and many people start the hiking with a breakfast here.

Farmers sell vegetable and herbs from their fields

..and here starts the hiking trail.

You also can buy the vegetables directly from the field. Right now its too hot and most of the fields where empty.

It was also too hot for hiking (at least for me ;) but I m looking forward to go there again in September, start with the brunch and later see more from the countryside.
To arrive ther is very easy:
Take the red MTR line until the end (Tsuen Wan), than exit B, cross the bridge and find the minibus Nr. 80, go to the end (at least I think, it was the last station of the minibus, but just go off the bus, when you see a big house with many people :D )
Or: call me and we go together
And here is a link of the restaurant with more Photos:

Solar Eclipse

On 22.7.2009 we could watch a total solar eclipse in Asia.
Here in HK we could only see 78% but unlike to big parts of China including Shanghai, we had good weather; just few clouds.
I tried to take photos, but the sun was still too strong and I had no special lense.
Here you see the results:

Through my sunglases.... doesn't work....

... through my fingers.... not a good idea....

... not really a way to take a good photo; but I was surprised to see afterwards the "shadow" of the eclipse.

And here the sun, changed by paint.net :)
Ok, no good photos. But to see the eclipse live, was amazing.
Sorry for the people in Shanghai; they couldn't see it and they also can't see my pics here, as blogspot, facebook..... are not available anymore un China.
Shame on the chinese government!!!!

Birthday-BBQ

At my birthday end of May I was in scotland.
Now back in HK I went last sunday with friends for an after-birthday-BBQ to the beach
of Shek O.

Its a nice place and the weather was perfect (rain season already started in HK).
You can rent a place with a grill, and chairs.
At the nearby supermarket (more a very small store) you find anything you need: all kind of meat, drinks, paperplates, forks...

The fish we got earlier fresh from the market..

Later I even got a birthdaycake :)

... and we finished the evening with a drink at a hidden beach bar.
It was a nice birthdayparty, will have some more when other friends comming to HK ;)
